We spent the past few weeks learning about the five senses!

TODDLER TIME

This group experienced the senses through playing musical instruments, playing various versions of Peekabooand hiding games, and lots of tickling with our song “Tickly Rain”! We found bears hidden around the room, dance with scarves, and played with the parachute.

LITTLE LEARNERS

This group learned about each of the senses through a number of activities, such as matching sounds in eggs, guessing objects hidden in a bag, smelling scents in cups, describing tastes, and learning that only our sense of sight allows us to see color. A few letters came to visit as well. We finished off this session by going on five-senses-walk, playing “Hide and Go Listen,” and enjoying a picnic together!

GET READY

This group learned about what life might be like for someone who cannot hear or see. We watched a video about someone who is deaf, tried a bit of sign language, and led each other around blindfolded to find out what it might feel like to be blind. Additionally, we found that we could guess flavors even if we couldn’t see what we were eating; we could also guess objects drawn on our backs. At the end of the session, we enjoyed a Five Senses Party, playing
a game which required our senses of sight and hearing. Of course, we had some treats, too!

DISCOVER MORE

This group learned about how the senses work. We acted out how smell works, taking on roles such as the nerve or the nostril. We conducted small experiments (Why do we have two ears?) and read poems and books, sharing what we learned with each other. We also found that it was very hard to tickle ourselves and touch a variety of surfaces to find the words that accurately described them.
